Another Test Coming Up

Today we had western civ first mod which is good but i was a bit tired. in class today we got a worksheet that we needed to fill out definitions on them on the back there were questions on what person did what. the test on ancient egypt is on monday and i hope i do good because I'm trying to get my grade up. the terms we need to know are cataract, delta, nome, dynasty, pharaoh, ka, pyramid, maat, hieroglyphics, and papyrus. i feel pretty confident about the vocab words but not so much the people and what they did. the people we need to know are, Howard Carter, Namer, and Jean Francois Champollion. Im going to need to study the people a lot to make sure i do good on this test because i really need it. after we finished the worksheet we went over it and i had everything correct which is great. at the end of class when we had five minutes left mr. schick told us we could start out blogs but i didn't since i wouldn't be able to get anything done in five minutes.

Early River Valley Civilizations

Today in class I did not feel good at all. After class I left school. In class today, we didn’t do much besides take notes from out textbooks, here are some of them.

Þ  The earliest civilizations formed on fertile river plains.
-These lands faced challenges such as seasonal flooding and limited growing area.

Þ  Projects such as irrigation systems required leadership and laws.
-the beginnings of a well, organized government.

Þ  Early civilizations developed bronze tools, the wheel, the sail, the plow, writing, and math.
-These innovations spread through trade, wars, and the movement of people.

Þ  Southwest Asia’s curved land and richness of the land is a place called the fertile crescent.

Þ  The Greek meaning for the word Mesopotamia is “Land between the rivers”

-      The rivers framing Mesopotamia are the Tigris river and the Euphrates river.

Þ  The Tigris and Euphrates rivers flood Mesopotamia at least once a year.
-As the flood water receded it leaves a thick bed of mud.

Þ  The Hammurabis code held people responsible for their actions.

first test of the year.

Today in Western Civ we had class first mod and took a test. We haven’t had western civ since.  Monday, of last week so it felt kind of weird being back. In class today, we took out first test of the year in western civ and it was actually kind of easy. On the test it asked you at lot of things that I had in my notes and studied but there were also some hard questions on the test like it would ask you a question that I don’t ever remember seeing, hearing, or writing down in my notes. I wasn’t here for the first 15 minutes of class when we started the “Guns, Germs, and Steel” video so maybe that’s where the question came from but I’m not sure. There was also a question where it asked you to name 8 domesticatedanimals and they had to be over 100 pounds. And you could do 4 more for extra credit but because I didn’t really know the first eight I definitely knew I couldn’t get 4 more.

test tomorrow
