Finally Back

Today I once again had class right after P.E so it was a little boring to begin with. In class we finished the video we have been watching and continued to take notes, here are some of them.

¨    Fertile crescent is in the Middle East.
¨    Middle East’s climate was too hot to farm.
¨    Unable to farm their land, civilizations were unable to advance.
¨    Latitude means they roughly have the same climate.
¨    100,000,000 cattle in the United States alone.
¨    20 million tons of wheat being eaten or used by Americans.
¨    The important thing is the hand they were dealt.

I thought that because there was only ten minutes left of the video that we would do something else because all was 40 minutes long but Mr. Schick would pause the video and tell us if there was very important parts that we should write down.

"Guns, Germs, and Steel" part 3

Today in western civ I had class right after PE so it was kind of boring since I just came from a class where I was running around to a class where I had to sit still and watch a video. In class we took a lot of more notes from the video “Guns, Germs, and Steel” here are some of them.

o  You can domesticate animals whenever you want.
o  Having animals helps crops and having crops helps animals.
o  Goats and sheep were the first domestic animals in the world.
o  People never used to use plows because they never had the animals to pull them.
o  The lama is from South America.
o  The other 13 animals are from Asia, North Africa, and Europe.
o  Sheep, pigs, cows, and goats are native to the Middle East.

o  Have to have a productive system so not everyone is spending their time wondering what everyone is going to eat.

Lots of Notes

  • Today in class I had class right after gym. In class we took lots of notes here are some of them.
  • China produces rice and they also produce it naturally.
  • It is geographically lucky for where a civilization starts, grows, and advances.
  • There is not of a lot of things to get protein from so some people will eat giant spiders to get protein.
  • sago has little to no protein and can not be stored for a long time.
  • the pulp of a sago tree can be turned into a dough and then cooked to eat.
  • Corn, squash, and beans grew in the Americas
  • Sorghum, millet, and yams were grown in Africa

Today we also took our first pop quiz of the second semester and i didn't do the best. I read question number four wrong and chose the wrong answer so i got an 4/5 which is an 80%

Late to Class

Today we had Western Civilization first mod and I got to school late so I didn't make it to class until there was about 25 minutes left in class. When I got to class the whole class was watching a video and taking notes, I didn't get many notes because i could only get the last part of the video by the time I got there so here they are.

Western colonials believed that power was determined by race.

All great civilizations have advanced technology, large population, and a well organized work force.

Pre history is just history before people drew or wrote anything down.

13,000 years ago people were living as hunter gathers.

I know i do not have very many facts and/or notes from the video we watched in class today but i will make sure i can get other people in the class to share notes with me so i can use them to study for the test.

First Day Of Western Civ

Today was our first day of our western civ class and we had the class last. Today in class we helped the new students who are having Mr. Schick for the first time set up their blog. In class we also went over things that most of us know for example, like that we have to do blogs every night that we have class and type up what we did in class, we have to do blogs even if we weren't in class but they still had class, and finally we have an extra day to finish/start our blogs on Friday. I think this class will be very interesting and i hope i learn a lot more than what i did in middle school. In middle school we didn't really have to do anything and still get an A but now we have to do work and even if I do what I think my best work is I still don't get the best grade.
